Technological Benefits
To examine and compare core technologies for indoor navigation, assisted navigation etc., the
solution for the digital baseband must be a reprogrammable, flexible solution. Therefore the
RF frontend was realised as an ASIC solution to demonstrate a low cost/low power solution
with high degree of integration.
The digital baseband hardware and software was implemented as an FPGA solution to
maximise the time frame within the project for the development and optimisation of the core
technologies and to have a reprogrammable hardware platform to test implementations of the
examined core technologies on a hardware prototype.
The FPGA solution for the digital baseband part does not restrict the possibility to examine
and develop a low cost, low power receiver solution. Power, costs and size of a later ASIC
solution can be calculated from the FPGA solution. The digital ASIC does not require addition
of external components.
At the end of the project, a Galileo mass market receiver was
presented and demonstrated.
